Dr. Danielle Schoen

Dr. Schoen grew up on Long Island’s south shore, spending her childhood swimming, horseback riding, and dreaming of becoming a veterinarian. Fueled by that passion, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York College at Geneseo while competing in the Division 3 national swimming championships. Her journey then took her to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, where she not only fulfilled her dream of becoming a veterinarian but also gained invaluable international experience alongside colleagues who continue to inspire her today.

Upon returning to the U.S. with her island dog, Clyde, Dr. Schoen completed a clinical rotation at Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine (go War Eagle!) before embarking on a rotating small animal internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York. Embracing the diverse and car-free lifestyle of the city, she made Williamsburg, Brooklyn her home and further honed her skills as an emergency veterinarian at Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group, working with board-certified specialists. After years of overnight ER shifts and an unconventional work-life balance, she transitioned to daytime relief work with various hospitals in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

In 2011, she joined One Love Animal Hospital full time, eventually becoming the medical director at the Yorkville location in 2013. There, Dr. Schoen built lasting relationships with her patients and their families, cherishing the evolution of the human-animal bond as she guided patient care through every phase of life.

Today, Dr. Schoen still lives in a cozy Brooklyn apartment with her partner Josh, their two children, and Francis—the spirited little dog who found her way into their hearts. Now, as she begins a new chapter with Veterinary Care Group in Greenpoint, she looks forward to deepening her commitment to the community she loves.
